Deck Build

Project Location: Puyallup, WA

This deck was built on a new home in Puyallup. The backyard only had a concrete step with a 10'x10' concrete slab. The new grass was waiting to go in after the deck was built. The new deck was going to be 10'x20', so new poured concrete piers were added to carry the additional length. Next, bolted down 4"×4" post bases were installed on top of the existing concrete slab. Then the deck frame was built using treated 4"×4" posts, 4'x8" beams, and 2"×8" floor joists. After the deck frame was completed, the wrap around steps were added. This was done by cutting multiple short stair stringers and installing them on 16" centers all the way around the three sides of the deck. Since there was no concrete slab for these stairs to rest on, holes were dug down the line every 48" or so, short treated posts were installed, and then they were filled with concrete. The stringers were then attached to the posts. Finally, the Trex decking was installed on the main area using hidden fasteners. A different color was added as an accent border. The Trex on the stairs was installed using color matched composite screws.
